MINIMUM QUALIFICATION & REQUIREMENT 

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or in a relevant field with minimum 5 years of experience in marine engineering, with hands-on experience in landing craft or similar vessels.
  • Experience will be considered only upon submission of an official reference letter explicitly stating the duration of employment.


OVERALL SCOPE

Perform routine and specialized mechanical and marine engineering duties specific to the repair, maintenance, and seaworthiness of landing craft. This includes overseeing the propulsion systems, deck machinery, and electrical components essential for vessel operations.


SCOPE OF WORK 

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and perform repairs on marine diesel engines, generators, and hydraulic systems specific to landing craft.
  • Undertake routine inspections of all vessel engines, gearboxes, and bow thrusters to ensure constant operational readiness.
  • Follow a predetermined schedule of preventive maintenance for the vessel, ensuring all servicing is completed on a timely manner to avoid downtime. 
  • Report any faulty or damaged vessel machinery immediately to the Operations Manager or Chief Mechanic.
  • Maintain detailed logs of engine hours, fuel consumption, spare parts inventory, and all technical repairs performed onboard.
  • Read and interpret marine engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals to plan repair projects or vessel upgrades.
  • Provide technical training and safety guidance to lower-level deckhands or junior mechanics.
  • Ensure all engine room activities adhere to safety standards and utilize appropriate protective equipment such as gloves, hardhats, and goggles.


JOB SKILLS AND SPECIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated excellent navigational skills with strong practical knowledge of seamanship.
  • Proven ability to manage vessel operations safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet operational deadlines, and function independently with minimum supervision.
  • Strong expertise in marine diesel and petrol engines, propulsion systems, hydraulics, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for complex mechanical and vessel-related issues.
  • Solid understanding of maritime safety standards, regulatory requirements, and seaworthiness principles.
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making abilities under operational pressure.
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with operations teams.
  • Should maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
  • Should be able to priorities tasks and manage one's own time effectively.
